ABOUT MRS LYNCH
"I've always known that I wanted to teach at Pillow."
My obsession with Pillow began over 30 years ago when I walked in these very halls as a kindergartner in Mrs. Smalley's class. Mrs. Smalley along with the rest of my Pillow teachers provided such a loving learning atmosphere that it set the tone for the rest of my life. I spent all six of my elementary years here at Pillow before moving on to Burnet Middle School and then Anderson High School. I attended The University of Texas where I received my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. I have taught third grade here at Pillow for thirteen years.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
My teaching philosophy is that children learn best when they feel safe and happy. To me this encompasses so many of my values as a teacher on several levels. Children should feel safe to express their feelings and ideas in the classroom. When children are happy, this can generally mean that all is right in their world for the moment - there are no other issues clouding their minds and they are free to learn.
In addition to my teaching philosophy I also have a set of teaching goals. One of my goals is to foster independent thinking, friendships, and acceptance. Another important goal is to motivate my students to become lifelong learners.
CORE VALUES
MY HISTORY
MY ROOTS
As I mentioned, I have taught 3rd grade here at Pillow for thirteen years. Before I was hired by Dr. Linda Webb, I was a student teacher here in 1st grade. During college, I worked at Extend-A-Care here at Pillow as a group leader and later as a supervisor at Pecan Springs. I attended Anderson High School and was involved in the PALs program which served Pillow, among other elementary schools in our vertical team. I attended Burnet Middle School, but most importantly I was a Pillow kid for my entire elementary school career. I mention this because my experiences at Pillow over the last 29 years have had an incredible impact on me. They are what laid the foundation for my calling in life. I have a very special place in my heart for Pillow. Some of my teachers are still here teaching or volunteering. My parents still live in my childhood home around the corner. My husband, both sister-in-laws, and numerous friends all went to Pillow. Most importantly, my children are Proud Pillow Panthers in First and Third grade.
